We’re now off on our first crack at distributing re-hydration packs, this time to two villages, Botohosi, a small village about 3ks up a terrible road, and Hilisaloo, where we’ve already built a water tank. Botohosi is in especially desperate need, and Damo is especially passionate about helping them.
Damien is buying the packages in bulk today. Alas, it looks like the local docs have all switched from the cheaper Oralit to a different brand called Powerlite. Powerlite is more expensive but supposedly better, with more in each package. Damien also called people in Gunung Stitoli, on the other side of the island, but the change is apparently island wide.
That is perhaps an example of price volatility–a constant problem in the developing world!
More to come on the details of the “socialization” meetings with the villagers and the distribution efforts.
